Criminal Investigation Division (CID)

The Criminal Investigation Division is made up of five sections.

The Drug Enforcement Unit, working with local, state and federal agencies, seized almost $2 million worth of drugs in 2006 and arrested 258 suspects.

The Special Crimes/SWAT Unit deals with dangerous and violent criminals, barricaded suspects, hostage rescues and other high-risk missions. In 2006 the unit received a $209,000 armored vehicle paid for by drug money seized by the Sheriff’s Office and a federal Homeland Security grant.

In 2006, the CID/Forensics section investigated more than 1,500 cases in the county and assisted more than 30 police agencies in Denton, Wise and Cooke counties with investigations.

The Warrants section processes and serves almost 10,000 warrants each year, as well as picking up out-of-state felons and bringing them back safely for trial. Homeland Security, headed by Captain Jeff Wawro, coordinates local law enforcement’s role in planning the county’s response to major disasters and terrorism.
