The Denton County Sheriff’s Office will hold two job fairs to recruit about 30 more entry-level jailers for the last phase of the opening of the new jail next month.
The job fairs will be held at the new Pre-Trial facility at 1406 Troy LaGrone Dr., behind the Denton County Courts Building, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11.
While it typically takes three weeks to a month to schedule a job interview after filling out the paperwork, applicants at the fairs will be able to do those on the spot. Tours of the jail will also be given to give applicants a better understanding of the duties of a detention officer.
Beginning salary for jailers is $13.55 per hour. Fringe benefits includes health, dental and life insurance, 12 paid holidays and two paid personal days a year, two weeks paid vacation and 12 paid sick days a year. All shifts are available for both male and female jailers.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED, a valid Texas driver’s license and with no felony or Class A misdemeanor convictions. The applicant also must have no Class B misdemeanor convictions in the past 10 years, and military veterans must have an honorable discharge.
Applicants can also apply during normal business hours at the Denton County Human Resources Department on the fifth floor of the Joseph A. Carroll Building, 401 W. Hickory, Denton, 940-349-3080.
